When I was in my early 30s, my father handed me a baggie with perhaps a dozen original (used and wrinkled) Barbie clothes that somehow remained 30 years after I stowed them away somewhere in a house we no longer lived in and said, “Save these. They will pay for college.”
If you’re like me, you had the album Tapestry vertically lined up on a shelf, perhaps arranged alphabetically if you were a bit OCD and maybe even on a shelf created with several cement blocks. Maybe your parents even had a copy. Some considered it a ground-breaking generational crossover album.
I hope I’m not the only one who has done this (more than once). You’re coming out from someplace (a store, the gym) to a lot where you parked your black/dark gray SUV. You don’t recall exactly where you parked (whatever happened to those posted letters that showed which row you parked on?) But onward you go to your car, grab the door handle, and realize it’s not your car.
You may recall that several months ago I expressed my desire to create a calendar featuring my favorite album covers. I covered January, February, and March. Now it’s time to showcase April, May, and June!
Do you remember dropping a quarter into the machine and you and your friends cramming into one of these photobooths? Do you still have those photo strips hanging around in a box in the basement? Or perhaps you were at a holiday party recently where they had a “photo booth” where you donned props, and the results were sent right to your Facebook or email?
As a Boomer, you may have been up close and personal with VHS systems, including those huge/heavy recorders that sat on your shoulder to take video of your child’s first birthday. And where are all those VHS tapes now? In the garage, in the basement, taped over with a favorite TV show?
