NASHUA, NH – Members of the Nashua Historical Society gave presentations on two upcoming events before the Board of Aldermen on Tuesday night.

The first of which is the Notable Nashuans Voices from the Past cemetery tour at the Unitarian Universalist Church on May 4 with two walking tours scheduled for 1 and 3 p.m.

Actors in period costumes will portray various people buried at the cemetery and present the stories of their lives, such as Daniel Abbot and Anna Stearns, the last person to be interred at the cemetery in 1989 and whose organ is now at the  Unitarian Universalist Church.

“Some of the stories are typical of what you would assume a family to have,” said collection technician Sarah Jauris. “Others are quite notable, others are rather nefarious and others are just little interesting insights into the life of people usually from the mid-1800s up until … 1988.”

On June 14, the Historical Society will open its World War II in Nashua and Beyond exhibit.

“The exhibit focuses on the home front in Nashua and its connection to the war front with an emphasis on Nashua’s role in the global war,” Jauris said. “The exhibit seeks to tell the stories of the people of Nashua, past and present, including their contributions to the war effort and the ways in which the war affected their lives.”

Items on display will include uniforms, letters, pictures, photographs and other memorabilia that once belonged to people and businesses in Nashua during the war. The exhibit will also include a documentary.

Broken into three parts – the homefront, war abroad, and the Jewish experience – the documentary includes interviews with World War II veterans, people who lived in Nashua during the war, and children of Jewish families who escaped Europe to come to the United States.

The documentary will also be shown at the Nashua Public Library.
